Quilting 101 - Big Star - Mila - West

This course is designed to teach people who are starting their journey in quilting. You will learn all the basic techniques which are needed to successfully make a quilt top. In a relaxed atmosphere, we will be making one of the traditional block called “Big Star”. Each block is approximately 25” x 25”. Then, you will have an option to make 4, 6 or 9 blocks. By joining these blocks together you could make a quilt upto 75” x 75” in size. This course will walk the students through all the steps; starting from the first straight cut to the finished top. A lot of tips included. Some homework might be required. Fabric requirements are calculated for large size quilt top.

Tools:
- Machine in good working order, with manual
- Cutting mat, rotary cutter, 6”x24” ruler, 12”x12” ( or similar) square ruler
- Snippers, scissors
- ¼” foot for piecing,
- neutral colour thread for piecing
- pins, fabric marking pen/pencil
- pen and paper for notes
Fabric:
- 0.6m in 6 various colours, (preferably 3 lighter colours and 3 darker colours) **
- 3m contrast fabric for background
- 1m coordinated fabric for binding and snowball corners
** this patern could utilize 10” layer cake kit, as long as there are variety of lighter and darker colours
