Sensory Blankets for Charity - Volunteer Group - South 3

Join us for a meaningful day of sewing, creativity, and community support as we work together to create sensory blankets for local charities and individuals in need. These special blankets provide comfort, stimulation, and support through a variety of textures, colors, and interactive elements.
Whether you’re an experienced sewist or just want to help, everyone is welcome to participate. Bring your sewing machine, basic sewing supplies, and any fabric or notions you’d like to donate. Cotton fabrics, fleece, ribbon, textured trims, buttons, Velcro, zippers, and other sensory-friendly materials are greatly appreciated.
This is a wonderful opportunity to give back, connect with fellow volunteers, and help create something truly meaningful for our community.
We are at the beginning stages of putting this group together as Terri has seen (and been asked) a need in the commuinty. Please be patient with us as we work through the structure of how these session will go and which charities will receive the

| Instructor Bio: | Why I started making sensory fidget blankets… When a dear friend, a gifted sewer, began suffering memory loss, I helped her family sell the contents of her sewing studio, including fabrics, notions, and other supplies. At the conclusion of the sale, a quantity of fabrics and notions remained, and given to me. Inspired by my friend’s situation, I created a sensory fidget blanket using her fabrics, notions, and other sewing treasures. My hope was that it would help stimulate her memory and bring her comfort and joy. I continued to visit her in an assisted living facility and noticed many other residents also living with various stages of memory decline. The need to help compelled me to think about making sensory fidget blankets for others using the supplies from her sewing room. After discussing the idea with a recreation therapist and showing her a sample blanket, she shared the concept with residents’ families to gauge interest. The response was immediate, and I soon began receiving requests for more sensory fidget blankets! Now I am looking for volunteers to help me transform simple fabrics and notions into sensory fidget blankets to give families with loved ones suffering memory loss, a practical and meaningful tool for interaction encouraging shared moments and treasured connections. Would you like to join me with volunteer sewers to make and donate sensory fidget blankets to meet this growing need in our community? |
