Serger Quilt-As-You-Go Placemats - Pat - West 1

It’s fast and fun to serge together placemats! This patchwork project is great for fabric stashes; especially fat quarters. You will cutout fabric pieces, then serge with strip piecing - 3 or 4 threads, ¼" seam allowances for clean finished, durable seams and perfect binding. You will have a reversible placemat that is neat and nice-looking on both sides. In class, you will complete one or more placemats. You must know how to thread and sew with your serger.
Supply List:
- Serger in good working order, all accessories and manual
- 3 cones od serger thread to blend with fabrics **
- One spool of Fusible thread **
- 18 – 24 “ quilting ruler, rotary matt and rotary cutter **
- Scissors , pins, “Wonder Clips”, fabric marker pen, **
- Pen and paper
- 4- fabric fat quarters & same amount of fat quarter fabrics for backing
- OR ½ metre of 4, cotton fabrics by 115cm wide (this includes backing fabrics),
- Binding fabric for 4 matts – 60 cm by 115cm wide cotton. Before class cut out 2 strips of binding 2 ¼" wide cross grain / selvage to selvage
- NB – Before class preshrink (wash and dry) all fabrics and iron smooth
- Batting – 1 metre by 40" wide or wider of thin quilt batting OR recycle a clean, used flannel sheet.
- Bring iron and pressing matt if available
