T-Shirts with Tessa - West



Not everyone has a serger but you can still learn the skills to make a T-shirt and sew knit fabrics using your regular sewing machine! This is a great class if you are new to sewing or have struggled with knit fabrics before

MACHINES:

  • You must be familiar with your sewing machine before class.
  • Sewing machine or serger in good working order with: Instruction manual, Foot control, Power Cord, All presser feet.

NOTIONS:

  • *Bobbins;
  • *Stretch needles 80/12;
  • *Stretch twin needle 2,75/75 OR 4.0/75
  • *Sharp fabric scissors OR  *Rotary cutter and *mat
  • *Paper scissors
  • *Pattern tracing paper
  • Pen, Mechanical pencil, coloured pencils, eraser
  • Scotch Tape
  • *Ruler, *Fashion/ *French curve
  • Basic sewing notions: *Thread snips;  *Glass head pins;   *Pin cushion;   *Tape measure; *Seam ripper;  *Chaco Liner marking chalk; *Press cloth for garment
PATTERN: Any semi fitted T-shirt pattern. Also bring along a T-shirt which fits with your preferred amount of ease.

Suggested patterns

 

FABRIC & NOTIONS:

  • Fabric meterage according to pattern requirements. Fabric must meet the stretch requirements (2-way or 4-way and stretch %) as specified in your pattern.
  • *Thread & serger thread to match or contrast with fabric as required.

PRE-CLASS PREPARATION:

  • PDF Patterns: Print at 100% scale. Measure test square on printout. Assemble PDF pages as describe on pattern company website.
  • In the orientation class we will discuss patterns, ease and fit and fabrics suitable for your pattern. If you already have some knit fabrics bring them along to discuss if they will be suitable, otherwise you can buy fabric after the orientation class.
