Athleisure Tank/Yoga Top - Tessa - West 1



Athleisure is activewear garments which are technical enough for your sporty workouts yet comfy enough for everyday relaxing and errands! Pair a tank or top pattern with a tights or pant pattern for a stylish and sporty coordinated outfit.

In this class you'll get the fit to suit your shape for a comfortable workout. Try a racerback top or add a tummy skimming layered tank for more modesty. Sew it up with stretch fabric techniques on your sewing machine, serger or coverstitch! Bonus in class: find out how a binding attachment works and what a coverstitch machine can do for your activewear sewing.

Supply List: 

MACHINES:

  • You must be familiar with your sewing/ serger/ coverstitch machines before class and machines must be in good working order.
  • Serger (preferable) OR Sewing machine in good working order with:
  •       Instruction manual, Foot control, Power Cord, All presser feet.
  • Coverstitch machine(optional) in good working order with:
  •       Instruction manual, Foot control, Power Cord, All presser feet.
  •       If you do not have a coverstitch machine bring a sewing machine and twin stretch needle for hems etc.

 

NOTIONS:

  • If bringing your Sewing machine: *Bobbins; *Stretch needles 80/12; *Stretch twin needle 2,75/75 OR 4.0/75
  • If bringing your Serger: *Serger stretch needles 80/12
  • If bringing your Coverstitch: *Coverstitch ELx705 machine needles (optional)
  • *Sharp fabric scissors OR  *Rotary cutter and *mat
  • *Paper scissors
  • *Pattern tracing paper
  • Pen, Mechanical pencil, coloured pencils, eraser
  • Scotch Tape
  • *Ruler, *Fashion/ *French curve
  • Basic sewing notions: *Thread snips;  *Glass head pins;   *Pin cushion;   *Tape measure; *Seam ripper;  *Chaco Liner marking chalk; *Press cloth for garment

 

PATTERN: Sample pattern is Jalie #3679 Pika Sport bra and tank.

Choose a pattern to suit your experience level:

 

FABRIC & NOTIONS:

  • Fabric and/or contrast meterage according to pattern requirements.Athletic fabric must meet the stretch requirements (2-way or 4-way and stretch %) as specified in your pattern.
  • Elastic width/s and lengths according to pattern requirements.
  • *Thread & serger thread to match or contrast with fabric as required.

 

PRE-CLASS PREPARATION:

  • PDF Patterns: Print at 100% scale. Measure test square on printout. Assemble PDF pages as describe on pattern company website.
  • Trace pattern: Measure your bust circumference around the body at the fullest part of your bust. Do not add any extra. Find the pattern size corresponding to your hip measurement on the pattern envelope. Trace the pattern pieces but do not cut out. Bring these pieces to class where we will confirm size/s and make any alterations to waist size, leg length, knee width, hem circumference etc. as required
  • Fabric/s: Prewash and dry fabrics as you intend to care for finished garment.
