Unexpected Improv! with Darlene Bayley - South 4

No rules, few measurements - a chance to stretch your creativity! Learn to do some improv piecing based on basic quilt blocks, then challenge yourself to create a flowing and artistic design with them. Darlene will help you engineer these blocks together and come up with an improv/abstract quilt that is totally unique and totally your own!

Supply List:

  • A wide selection of cotton fabrics. You need approx. a meter of your background fabric, or .5 or 2 (for example if you choose black and white as both background fabrics). You then need a variety of fabrics (.2m of each) in one or two colour ranges. Contrast to your background is great. See class sample for examples!
  • Sewing machine in good working order (you must know how to use your machine)
  • 1/4" foot
  • Rotary cutter with a sharp blade
  • Cutting mat
  • Quilting ruler - 6" x 24" or whatever you have available
  • Basic neutral thread for piecing
  • Quilting straight pins plus regular quilting supplies such as a seam ripper
  • Class 2: portable design walls would be great but if you don't have one, a large piece of quilt batting to lay your pieces on and work on design.
  • Class 3: final design considerations. Steam-A-Seam or other fusible web needed to add details.
