Gelli Plate Printing on Fabric (A New Way to Monoprint!) with Darlene Bayley - South 4

Join mixed media artist Darlene Bayley and create depth and pattern on your unique hand-painted fabrics with the use of a commercial Gelli-Plate! Learn a variety of techniques, including mark making, stenciling, stamping and more. Once you start, you won’t want to stop!

Supply List for Students:
  • Gelli Plate (They come in a variety of sizes; I prefer the 8” x 10”, but would love to go bigger. These are available at local art stores.
  • Fabric and/or acrylic paints (Acrylic paints change the “hand” of the fabric, but work very well on the plate).
  • A few sheets of white computer paper to clean your plate with (I like to use a sketchbook or art journal for this, and I clean my brayer off while at the same time creating beautiful pages for future journalling!)
  • Spray bottle for water
  • Paper towels
  • Optional and good for cleaning plate: baby wipes or hand sanitizer
  • Approx 1 M of 100% cotton white fabric. It does NOT have to be PDF fabric (prepared for dyeing) cut into workable sized pieces. You may also experiment with light coloured fabrics; black & white prints, tone-on-tone fabrics etc.
  • Water container to clean brushes in
  • Brayer
  • Table cover
  • Mark making tools - gather some fun stuff up from around the house! This may include: cotton swabs, pencil erasers, combs, scrapers, old credit cards that you cut up, soft paintbrushes, sponges etc. The lid from a fabric paint jar makes an incredible stamp! Craft foam can be cut up for a variety of edges.
  • Stencils & Masks - Darlene will bring along her stencil collection and of course, bring any commercial ones you own. Found objects like leaves, string, orange bag wrappers etc make great masks too.
  • A bag to bring wet fabric home in.
