Quilting 101: Big Star - Mila - South 4



This course is designed to teach people who are starting their journey in quilting. You will learn all the basic techniques which are needed to successfully make a quilt. In a relaxed atmosphere, we will be making one of the traditional star block, then join these blocks together into a 60” x 60” lap size quilt. This course will walk the students through all the steps; starting from the first straight cut to the finishing binding. A lot of tips included. Some homework might be required.

  1.     Sewing machine in good working order, with manual, foot control, power cord, all accessories (you must know how to operate your machine at a basic level)
  2.     Cutting mat, rotary cutter, 6”x24” ruler, 12”x12” ( or similar) square ruler
  3.     Snippers, scissors
  4.     ¼” foot for piecing, and a stich-in-a-ditch foot/walking foot
  5.     neutral colour thread for piecing, matching colour thread for quilting
  6.     pins, safety pins, 505 spray, fabric marking pen/pencil
  7.     pen and paper for notes

 

Fabric:

 

  1. 0.6m in 6 various colours
  2. 3m contrast fabric for background
  3. 1m coordinated fabric for binding and snowball corners
  4. 4m backing fabric
  5. 2m batting, 90” wide
