Whether you're an absolute beginner or an experienced sewist, Central Sewing offers a wide range of sewing classes to help you take your skills to the next level. Classes are held weekly at our convenient Edmonton locations. With small class sizes, you'll receive personalized attention every step of the way.

Join Custom Bra-Maker Michelle Noble to learn the common alterations for getting that perfect fit with your bra patterns. It’s doesn’t have to be a mystery! You can make adjustments to any and get the best fitting bra you’ve ever had. Demos will be done on both the Margareta pattern, and the Angie’s Twin pattern. As well, there will be a examples of style changes, and how to work with foam. A prerequisite for this class is having taken the Beginner Bra-Making Class with Michelle.

This club is hands-on and is designed to give you all the tools you need to embroider like an expert. It is taught by a mother/daughter duo. Combined, they have 50+ years experience and together they currently own a total of 7 embroidery machines (single & multi-needle). If it can be done in an embroidery machine, they have done it! Join them for the embroidery experience of a lifetime.

Join other KimberBella’s (or Kimberfella’s) the third Saturday of every month to complete new or existing projects. Come to any or all sessions and get those UFO’s done!-

We have donated our classroom to a fantastic group of volunteers. This group visits us the first and third Thursday of each month. They make quilts and bags which are donated to the Zebra Child Protection Centre. If you are interested in this group, please call the store at 780-486-0047 for details.

Sewing Basics is a class designed introduce you to a fun new hobby. Releaving some of the mystery and frustration of learn new skills. Classes include getting to know your sewing machine, choosing a project, reading a pattern, choosing fabrics, skills like seams and seam finishes and basic start to clothing construction.

This Wednesday class is for the confident beginner. Join Tessa and classmates in making a garment from a pattern. She will discuss, pattern selection, fabric selection, and then move on to assisting students to completion. Previous student can take the class again with a new pattern to help increase your confidence with your sewing.

Create 17 reference samples in this information-packed class! Do a total of 12 different seam finishes. Seven of them are non-serged, which includes Hong Kong, Bound, Flat Fell, and French, along with a great way to finish off underlined pants with a Double French Seam. Learn also how to make continuous bias tape for some of these great seams. Plus, make a fake flat fell seam, reinforced seam, and a finished pressed open seam as well. Make an unbelievable dart and pleat using one thread on your sewing machine. Get the hands on doing a mitered hem and slick 1/4" curved hem.

Uncover great techniques in this knit know-how-to workshop! Bring your favorite knit pattern (yoga pants, knit tops, dress, and zip up hoodie or whatever your heart desires) and fabric to this hands-on workshop.

In this hands-on workshop you will learn how to identify the fitting problems and how to solve them. Ron will show how to correct fitting problems regarding raising or lowering bust fullness in a princess seam, adding in a dart when a pattern requires one, moving a horizontal underarm dart to a vertical waist dart, altering for a small bust and increasing full bust for a princess seam. Along with pant alterations for knock and bowed legs, full and protruding seat, flat seat and many more. We will also take 28 body measurements for you: high bust, low bust, shoulder width, sleeve length, back waist length, pant and skirt length, plus more - a total of 28 body measurements. Every student will have an alteration package to take home with them showing all the alterations that they have done. Ron will give you the inside answer on what pattern companies run larger and which ones tend to run true to measurements. He will also explain how much wearing ease you need in all garments from close fitting, fitted, semi fitted, loose fitted and very loose fitted. Take the guess work out of trying to choose what size garment by finding the “finished garment measurements” and not using the sizes on the back of the pattern envelope. See the difference in sizing charts in major pattern companies and how to choose the right size for you and how to avoid disappointment in fitting.

So, your funky-looking buttonholes are ruining your constructed garments!!! See what makes a successful buttonhole on your sewing machine, using the proper thread, needle sizes and needles types, stabilizer and seam sealant. Learn how to do a corded buttonhole for bulky fabrics, great for a larger button that will stretch out your buttonhole over time. Bound buttonholes; if you ever did these buttonholes and did not like the finished results, Ron will show how he used a combination of bound and machine buttonholes which will beat anything in ready to wear. You love the creative look of an in-seam buttonhole which can be added horizontally or vertically to a man or woman’s shirt. No need to fear buttonholes any longer.

In this workshop you'll learn how to do a rounded curved patch pocket with a flap, lined patch pocket, invisible patch pocket and double welt pocket! Ready to expand the limits on what you can do with your serger? Sergers do so much more than just finish seams! Let’s make a t-shirt using only the serger ! Gain confidence in understanding your serger’s stitches and when and how to use them and new techniques for hemming , ribbing serging on a perfect neck band! At end of class - you’ll have a finished t-shirt ready to wear. ***You must be able to thread your serger..beginner plus class.

CYOB.. Create your own bag! No matter what size or shape, learn the tips and techniques for different zippers, finishes, sizes, corners, flourishes, and more. This class will help you familiarize yourself with putting in zippers and adjusting the length and size of your pouch.

Knit fabrics are wonderful to wear but need special techniques to sew. This is a great class if you are new to knits fabrics or have struggled with them before. In this Technique + Project class we will learn about the wide variety of knit fabrics, from beginner friendly to super stretchy. Sew up your reference samples of stitches and seams; stabilizing shoulder seams; neck and hem finishes; golf shirt style placquet and more. We will measure for the correct size of your selected T-shirt or sweatshirt pattern and make any adjustments. Cutting and sewing your garment with expert guidance will complete your project. Sewing machines are required and sergers are optional to complete the main garment assembly. Make your T-shirt unique with your combination of style, neck finish or sleeve length. A sweatshirt or hoodie is a winter staple and sews up fast on your sewing machine or serger. Choose a hoodie or rib neckband, a kangaroo pocket or none, hemband or extra length ? it?s up to you! Make one for the whole family from kids sizes 2 to ladies 22 or unisex size 5X with Jalie patterns.

What types of sewing classes are offered?
Central Sewing offers a variety of sewing classes for different skill levels, including beginner sewing classes that teach adults the basics of sewing and following patterns. We also have specialized classes like the Beginner Bra Class to learn how to make custom-fitted bras. Quilting classes are available for those interested in learning quilting techniques.


Where are the sewing classes held?
The sewing classes are held at our Central Sewing retail locations in Edmonton. "West" is our 18514 - 104 Avenue location and "South" is our 8649 - 63 Ave location.

How much do the sewing classes cost?
The cost varies based on the class. They range from $75 to $400 per a class. For example our beginner adult sewing class costs $200 for the weekly 2.5 hour sessions, while the specialized Beginner Bra Class costs $365.

Do I need to bring my own sewing machine?
For most classes, yes you need to bring your own sewing machine that is in good working order. However, some classes it is not required. Please read the class "supply list" to confirm or contact us for more information.
