Fabric Facts

Fabric Type Cutting & Layout Thread Needles Care
Corduroy Use the "with nap" layout.
Nap typically runs down.
Pin only in the seam allowances.
Cotton or Polyester Universal point size 80 or 90. Corduroy shrinks -prewash & machine dry the way you will launder your finished garment.
Faux Fur Use the "with nap" layout.
Cut single layer, wrong side up, through the backing only with the tip of the scissors.
Polyester Universal point size 80 to 100 depending on the thickness of fur. See Manufacturer's Directions:machine wash & tumble dry or dry clean.
Flannel Use "with nap" layout. Cotton Universal point size 80 or 90. Cotton Flannel: prewash & dry by machine. Wool Flannel: dry clean.
Sweatshirt Fleece Place pattern pieces so that stretch goes around the body. Use "with nap" layout. Polyester Universal point size 80. Universal twin needles for top stitching. Prewash & dry fabric twice, fleece shrinks progressively. Launder at the same temperatures as prewash.
Leather Place lengthwise grain parallel to the backbone (this direction has the least amount of stretch).Do not use pins. Polyester Leather (wedge point) size 70 to 100 depending on the thickness. Dry clean. Spot clean with a soft cloth moistened with water and hair shampoo.
Microfibre On some pieces you will need to use "with nap" layout. Cotton Microtex size 70 to 80 Machine wash & dry.
Rayon Cut carefully as it frays excessively. Cotton Microtex size 70 or Universal size 80 Weak when wet, shrinks immensely. Prewash & dry if garment will be machine washed otherwise dry clean.
