Embroidered Chiffon Scarf by Linda
Material Requirements
Chiffon - 25cm x 115cm (10"x45")
Sulky embroidery thread
Solvy - water soluble - 1 pkg.
Woolly Nylon or Sulky to match fabric - 1 spool
Regular thread to match fabric - 2 spools - for use on the serger
Embroidery designs of your choice.
Instructions
Hoop fabric and Solvy - one piece of Solvy on the top and one piece on the bottom with your fabric in between.
Choose your designs and stitch out as many as you like. When you are finished with the embroidery, remove it from the hoop .
Thread your serger for a rolled hem using the woolly nylon or rayon thread of your choice in the upper looper.
Precut strips of Solvy ½" wide and place on the top of your scarf edges as you serge the rolled hem. The Solvy adds stability and prevents puckering.
Soak the finished scarf in warm water to remove the water soluble stabilizer. This may need to be done a few times in order to remove all the residue.
HINTS: Most embroidery uses white bobbin thread. In this case you want your bobbin thread to match the top thread. I used a variegated thread on the scarf I made and the different shades sewed out with a lovely effect.
Any of the Solvy that you do not use should be kept in a sealed plastic bag to prevent drying out. And if, heaven forbid! You should have dried out Solvy (something we all try and avoid) there is hope! Put the little crinkly pieces in a jar of water and let it soak until you have this great brush on stabilizer! No waste!
