Construction: |

Interface the wrong side of the 2 pieces of cotton. |
|
Method 1: Using a Circle Maker with the Sewing
Machine |
- Cut the strips of fabric into 7" pieces (you will need 6 of each fabric)
- Place right sides together. Find the centre point of the square and mark with
a pen.
- Push the tack through the centre point of this square and stitch the circle using
a stitch length of 2 (figure 1)
- Repeat until you have 6 circles stitched.
- Trim the seam allowances to 1/4 inch. (figure 2)
- Cut a slit through the front layer only as illustrated. This slit will be
hidden when the circle is topstitched in place. Be sure that the slit is close to
the edge or it will show when the place mat is completed. (figure 3)
- Turn the fabric through the slit and press.
- Using the template, mark the stitching line on the top side of the place mat.
- Place two circles, with the under sides together and stitch on the marked line.
Open up the flaps and press. Add one more circle to these two. (figure 4)
- Repeat the process with the remaining three circles. (figure 5)
- Press in place.
- Place the two strips under sides together and mark a stitching line as illustrated
in figure 6.

Method 2: Using a Template for the Circle |
- Using the circle as a tracer, trace 6 circles
of each of the two fabrics.
- Using the edge of the presser foot as a guide
and a stitch length of 2, sew around the entire perimeter of the circle.
- Continue on as described in Method 1.
You can turn your placemat into a table runner or table cloth by increasing the number
of the circles. |
