Embroidery on Window Screens

screen image framed

Embroidery on window screens is fast and easy. All it takes is a sense of adventure, some fiberglass window screening, embroidery equipment and your imagination.

Window Screening can be purchased in most hardware and big department stores inprepackaged rolls or from a huge bolt. Presently it comes in two colours, black and grey and must be made of fiberglass. The fiberglass will not harm the needle or the machine.

Window screen embroidery can be placed on front entrance doors, bedroom windows (embroider the same motif found in the bedspread, wallpaper, etc.), kitchen windows (try kitchen utensils, tea cups, etc.), tents, cabins/cottages. The places and ideas are endless.

Threads
Threads for "screen play" need to be durable and colour fast. The best choice for this embroidery is polyester as it will stand up to the elements longer than cotton or rayon. Cotton and rayon can be used, they will just need to be replaced sooner.

Ideas and Placement
1.  A horse's head in the centre and horse shoes in the four corners of an entrance for horse enthusiasts.
2.  A window box filled with flowers at the bottom part of a window for a gardener or lover of flowers.
3.  A golf course covering the total screen for a golfer.
4.  Power tools etc. on the entrance door to worker's shop.

Procedure
1.  Measure the window/screen opening to determine placement.
2.  Cut two pieces of solvy approximately 2" larger than the screen opening in the window.
3.  Determine your design placement by any method you prefer. 4.  Mark one layer of solve with this placement.
5.  Make a sandwich of screen and solvy with the screen being sandwiched between the two layers of solvy. When using large pieces of screen, KK2000 adhesive spray will help hold everything together.
6.  Thread the machine with the same thread top and bottom.
7.  Embroider away!
