THE ELNA SERGER STORY
All of a sudden there seemed to be a rush of people
talking about a new sewing machine on the market. Yes,
their dressmaker had one and it could give your home sewn
garments that factory finished look. Elna's engineers
worked hard to decide what features their serger should
have. They had a 3 thread but customers wanted a 4 thread so they designed it and
had it built in Japan. Next they wisely built a 5 thread serger that could overlock and sew
seams beside the overlocked stitches all in one operation.
Customers were impressed with a machine that would sew, cut and finish the seams at
1500 stitches per minute. Many almost sewers became intrigued with the idea of a
serger. They bought one, took up sewing and proudly brought their garments in to Show
and Tell what they had created on their machines.
For the sewer this was the answer to a dream, this serger at up 2-3-4 or 5 threads at
once. It enabled them to sew tank tops, sweat suits, bathing suits, pajamas and dresses
in not time at all. Many of our customers still say that the serger has taken 50 to 80% of
the sewing that was once done by the sewing machine.
But you still need a sewing machine to make buttonholes, do regular mending, stitching
and fancywork.
At Central Sewing Elna has been a name we are proud to have been associated with
since 1963 and have been Canada's #1 dealer for many years.
